Tigers Roar As Runners-Up!

Head coach Jeff Bees talks up his troops following a tough championship loss but at the close of a season during which his young Tigers far exceeded expectations.

Perry Red Stifles Tigers' Championship Run
The short story to be told about July 2 is that BHAA's farm league Tigers fell to Perry Red in the championship game. Plain and simple. But this story is anything but plain and simple.

At the start of the season, no one would have guessed that a team with three 6-year-olds and one 5-year-old could fair well in a division reserved for 7- and 8-year-olds. But just a few games into the young season, the Tigers kicked it into gear and began defying the odds. And they never quit. Not during the season, and not during a nearly undefeated playoff run in which they laid claim to the winners bracket and waited for an opponent to meet them in the championship game.

The long story to be told about July 2 is that these Tigers came together and beat the odds. They finished second in an 11-team division with more than a handful of players on the roster who technically should still be in teeball.

Elder statesmen Justin Bees, Ethan Khoza, Brandon Ashcom, Duane Combs, JJ Younger, and Malcolm Bowman will graduate to junior little league in 2009.
Youth will allow them to forget the short-lived pain of getting so close to first but coming in second. The rest of the Tigers' young roster will return to be team leaders next year, wise with the knowledge that even the smallest tigers can yield a mighty roar.

How Does the Season Work?
BHAA’s teams play in North Pittsburgh Baseball Association with teams from Brightwood, Perry, Troy Hill, and Urban Impact Foundation. Most games are played at the John Merry field complex, but teams also travel to Young, Garvin, Cowley, and Martin Luther King fields throughout the season (your coach will provide directions). The Farm League age bracket is comprised of 11 teams overall, including four from Brighton Heights. Each team qualifies for the randomly-drawn double-elimination playoffs.
